About Me

For Wisconsin-based neurosurgeon Dr. Melissa Macias, it’s always been about the brain. A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso class of 1990, Dr. Macias earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry before pursuing her PhD in cellular biology and neuroanatomy at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Upon her graduation, she began medical school at the same university.

Throughout her educational career, Dr. Macias earned several scholarships, research grants, and graduate level fellowships, including an invitation to the 11th Annual International Symposium on Neural Regeneration in 2005.

During her medical residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Melissa Macias took special courses in brain and spinal cord dissection. She even spent an entire year of her residency focusing on methods for comprehensive management of spinal diseases. Throughout her career as a clinical researcher and a neurosurgeon, Dr. Macias has co-written and published multiple studies focused on her post-graduate clinical interests regarding treatments and approaches to the spine for degenerative and infectious pathologies.

When she’s not performing surgeries or volunteering on medical mission trips to Central America, Dr. Macias enjoys spending time with her poodles, Wallis and Dagny, playing tennis, traveling for leisure, and watching the Green Bay Packers play.
